Codiko has launched – a new desktop writing app for novelists

After months of building, testing, tweaking, redesigning, squishing bugs, adding features, removing features, and occasionally creating entirely new bugs while fixing the old ones… Codiko is officially here.

Codiko is a desktop writing app for novelists and storytellers who want somewhere to bring the different parts of a story together - not just the manuscript, but the characters, places, relationships, timelines, structure and all the other pieces that grow around it.

It also has a powerful optional AI assistant that can work with your project when you want it to - helping you brainstorm, explore ideas, search your story, develop characters and structure, or act as an extra pair of editorial eyes.

Your writing stays at the centre of it all.

From an idea to a real app

Codiko started because I wanted a better way to organise the novel I was trying to write.

What began as a tool for myself gradually became something much bigger. Over the past few months we've been working with testers, refining the interface, chasing down bugs and figuring out which features are actually useful when you're trying to build a story rather than just adding things because they sound clever.

There are still plenty of ideas on the list, probably far too many, but Codiko has reached the point where we're really excited to put it into more writers' hands.

And this is only the beginning

Launching Codiko doesn't mean it's finished.

We want it to grow alongside the people who use it. If something feels awkward, something is missing, or you have an idea that would make Codiko better for the way you write, we'd genuinely love to hear it.

We're also building a community around Codiko where writers can share ideas, ask questions, suggest features and help shape where the app goes next.

Come and try it

Codiko is available now for macOS and Windows, with a free 14-day trial so you can explore it with your own stories before deciding whether it's for you.

If you've been looking for a place where your manuscript, planning and story world can actually live together, we'd love for you to give it a try.

And if you do - let us know what you think!
