Privacy Policy

The short version

Codiko is a local-first desktop app. Your manuscripts, characters, timelines, and all creative data stay on your machine. We never see it, collect it, or have access to it.

1. Data Controller

2. What data the App collects

None. Codiko does not send any of your creative data to our servers. All your work is stored in local files on your device.

When you use AI features, queries are sent directly from your device to your chosen provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or a local model). We are not involved in this communication and do not have access to the content of your queries or responses.

The App communicates with our server only for license validation (verifying your license key is valid). The only data transmitted is your license key and a device identifier. No manuscript content, characters, or creative data is ever sent.

3. What data the website collects

Our website uses privacy-friendly analytics (Umami) that do not use cookies and do not collect personal data. We see anonymous aggregate data only: page views, referral sources, and country. We cannot identify individual visitors.

Legal basis: Legitimate interest in understanding how our website is used. No consent is required as no personal data or cookies are involved.

4. Email & waitlist

If you sign up for our waitlist or email updates, we store your email address with our email provider (Kit / ConvertKit). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email. We do not share your email with third parties.

Legal basis: Consent. You actively sign up and can withdraw at any time.

5. Purchases

Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider. They handle your payment information under their own privacy policy. We receive your name, email, and license key — we do not receive or store credit card details.

6. License validation

When you activate a license key in the App, it communicates with our server to verify the key and register your device. The data transmitted is limited to: your license key, a device identifier, and your app version. This requires an internet connection. The validation result is cached locally so the App works offline.

7. API keys

API keys you enter in Codiko (for OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) are stored locally on your device. They are never sent to our servers.

8. Crash reports

Codiko does not automatically send crash reports. If the App encounters an error, you may choose to manually report it via our feedback form. Any information you submit is voluntary.

9. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access any personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to processing of your data
• Request data portability
• Withdraw consent at any time (where consent is the legal basis)

In practice, the only personal data we may hold is your email (if you signed up for the waitlist) and your name/email from a purchase (via Lemon Squeezy). To exercise any of these rights, email hello@codiko.app.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data rights have been violated.

10. Data retention

Email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. Purchase records are retained as required by UK tax law (typically 6 years). We do not retain any data from the App itself as we never receive it.

11. International transfers

Our email provider (Kit) and payment provider (Lemon Squeezy) are US-based companies. Data transferred to them is protected under their respective data processing agreements and appropriate safeguards.

12. Children

Codiko is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

13. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at this URL.
